Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells, leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple, and vibrant. Once the exfoliation is done you will enjoy the benefits of having no vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the face and better skincare product penetration and performance.
How Does Dermaplaning Work?
Removing epidermal skin allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Because dermaplaning is a quick procedure with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity among cosmetic medical providers across the country. Using a scalpel and a delicate touch, the provider simply abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes.
Am I a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?
Physicians may recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels. It also may be used by estheticians to prepare the skin for superficial chemical peels or before a cleansing facial. This is a great treatment to offer to patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation without the use of harsh peeling agents. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
Your Dermaplaning Consultation
A dermaplaning consultation will involve a conversation about your appearance goals and medical history. You will be asked about your current prescriptions and any recent skin treatments. Our skin experts will determine your eligibility for this treatment.
For safety, if you have a severe sunburn or active breakouts, we may recommend treatment for these issues before you are cleared for a dermaplaning session. If you are undergoing cancer treatment, you may be asked to explore other skincare options.
Your Dermaplaning Session
One of our certified professionals will clean the face at the beginning of a dermaplaning session. They will then apply a solution for opening the pores.
After this solution takes effect, the certified professional will begin the exfoliation treatment. They will hold the surgical blade at 45 degrees and create gentle and quick strokes over the skin’s surface.
Dermaplaning Aftercare
After a dermaplaning session, avoid sun exposure and extreme heat for at least 3 days. Do not scrub your face, especially with exfoliation products, for one week. Take a break from swimming for a week, since your skin will be more sensitive to chlorine.
Dedicate yourself to applying the recommended serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen. This habit will give you the best results from a dermaplaning treatment.
You may come in for another session of dermaplaning after 3 to 4 weeks. This will help to maintain brighter, smoother, and younger-looking skin.
