Physicians have been using BOTOX® Cosmetic for years as a treatment to correct visible signs of stress and aging. The medication relaxes the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. When injected in small doses in specific areas, BOTOX® injections block nerve muscles responsible for the repetitive actions that cause fine lines and wrinkles. In this way, BOTOX® smoothes the lines in the skin that make you look tired or angry.

Candidates for BOTOX®

A good candidate for BOTOX® treatment may be anyone looking to enhance their appearance by getting rid of unwanted lines or wrinkles. It is also important that patients seeking treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic are in good physical health, are not pregnant or nursing, and do not have a neuromuscular disorder.

The BOTOX® Procedure

Using a very fine needle, Dr. Nagy will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into designated muscles in your face that are causing lines and wrinkles. You may experience brief, mild discomfort during the injection, but you can be assured that the treatment is very safe and effective. Taking only a few minutes, BOTOX® treatment requires no anesthetic and recovery is immediate, allowing you to return to work and resume your normal daily activities that same day.

The Importance of Choosing a Qualified Physician

Even though BOTOX® is not a surgical procedure, it is very important to choose a highly experienced and qualified physician when deciding to undergo BOTOX® treatments. BOTOX® Cosmetic Results

Immediately following the BOTOX® treatment, some patients may experience mild bruising, which will go away shortly. You will see your wrinkles begin to fade within 24 hours, with continued improvement over the next 5 days. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last up to four months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several BOTOX® treatments, the results may be prolonged.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment will relax the muscles in your face and soften the skin, giving you a more relaxed and youthful appearance. For optimum results, many patients choose to use BOTOX® in conjunction with a facelift, skin rejuvenation therapy, and/or laser skin resurfacing.

Risks and Side Effects of BOTOX®

Side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic are rare and are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects caused by BOTOX® are headaches and temporary redness or bruising of the skin at the site of injection. In rare cases, slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression may occur. Patients are encouraged to call the office with any questions or concerns they may have post treatment.

What is JUVÉDERM® made from?

Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA.

What should you expect with your injection treatment?

Your aesthetic specialist administers the treatment during a brief office visit. JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC, JUVÉDERM® XC, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC contain lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during treatment. If you’re still concerned about treatment discomfort, your aesthetic specialist may offer additional anesthetic options for you.

Are there any reasons why I should not receive any JUVÉDERM® injectable gel formulation?

Do not use these products if you have a history of multiple severe allergies or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or if you are allergic to lidocaine or the gram-positive bacterial proteins used in these products.

What should I tell my doctor about?

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety of these products for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding has not been studied. Tell your doctor if you have a history of excessive scarring (eg, hypertrophic scarring and keloid formations) or pigmentation disorders, as use of these products may result in additional scars or changes in pigmentation. Tell your doctor if you are planning other laser treatments or a chemical peel, as there is a possible risk of inflammation at the treatment site if these procedures are performed after treatment. Patients who experience skin injury near the site of injection with these products may be at a higher risk for side effects. Tell your doctor if you are on immunosuppressive therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response, as use of these products may result in an increased risk of infection. Tell your doctor if you are using medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners, as this may result in increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Minimize strenuous exercise, exposure to extensive sun or heat, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours following treatment.

Juvedérm® Volbella®

Juvéderm® VOLBELLA® is an FDA-approved injectable lip filler that comes in the form of a gel. This minimally invasive injectable dermal filler is used for lip augmentation procedures in adults ages 21 and older.

The Treatment Process

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION for DAXXIFY™ (daxibotulinumtoxinA-Ianm) injection

DAXXIFY™ may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of DAXXIFY™:

Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing due to weakening of associated muscles can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.
Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms that include loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.

Do not receive DAXXIFY™ if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in DAXXIFY™ (see Medication Guide for ingredients); had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as rimabotulinumtoxinB (MYOBLOC®), onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®/BOTOX® Cosmetic), abobotulinumtoxinA (DYSPORT®), incobotulinumtoxinA (XEOMIN®) or prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs (JEUVEAU®); or have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

DAXXIFY™ dosing units are not the same as, or comparable to, any other botulinum toxin product.

Tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions, including any side effects from botulinum toxin products, including dry eye; breathing, swallowing, bleeding, or heart problems; plans to have surgery; weakness of forehead muscles; drooping eyelids; have had surgery on your face; are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed.

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Using DAXXIFY™ with certain other medicines may cause serious side effects. Do not start any new medicines until you have told your healthcare provider that you have received DAXXIFY™ in the past.

Especially tell your healthcare provider if you have received any other botulinum toxin product in the last 4 months or any in the past, and exactly which product you received (such as BOTOX®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, MYOBLOC®, DYSPORT®, XEOMIN®, or JEUVEAU®). DAXXIFY™ may cause serious side effects, including allergic reactions (such as itching, rash, redness, swelling, wheezing, trouble breathing, or dizziness or feeling faint), heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat and heart attack), and eye problems (including dry eye, reduced blinking, and corneal problems). Tell your healthcare provider or get medical help right away if you experience a serious side effect. No serious adverse events of distant spread of toxin effect associated with dermatologic use of DAXXIFY™ have been reported in clinical studies at the dose of 40 Units for glabellar lines. The most common side effects of DAXXIFY™ include headache, eyelid drooping, and loss of ability to move the muscles in your face.

WHAT IS JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC?

HOW LONG DOES JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC LAST?

The clinical study demonstrated JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC lasts up to 18 months, with optimal treatment. The results show up right away and is then slowly broken down by the body to be absorbed. To make the corrections last longer, additional touch-up injections will be needed. These follow-up injections will typically use less of the material.

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS OF JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC?

The most common side effects included firmness, swelling, tenderness to touch, lumps/bumps, redness, pain, bruising, itching, and discoloration at the injection site. These side effects were usually mild or moderate in nature (causing little to some discomfort and impact on daily activities) and lasted 14 days or less.

HOW DOES VOLUX™ XC DIFFER FROM THE OTHER JUVÉDERM FILLERS?

Simply, Juvéderm Volux™ XC is a denser filler that the other Juvéderm fillers. Since it is used for contouring and defining the jawline, Volux™ XC has a unique HA molecular composition that allows it to better shape and lift the jawline. CAN I GET VOLUX™ XC IF I’VE BEEN INJECTED WITH A DIFFERENT DERMAL FILLER PREVIOUSLY?

If you’ve had another Juvéderm® dermal filler in the past, the answer is yes. If you’ve had another brand of filler like Restylane™, a consultation with your injector will determine when you can receive Volux™ XC. Typically, this is rarely an issue as long as the filler was more than one month prior.

IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

Since fillers are injected with a syringe, so you may feel a slight pinch, but as with most of the Juvéderm fillers, they are formulated with lidocaine, a temporary numbing local anesthetic to help reduce discomfort. In fact, many providers can also use a topical numbing cream to help minimize any other discomfort you may have during the initial injection.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS FROM MY JUVÉDERM VOLUX™ XC TREATMENT?

One of the benefits of fillers is the immediate result you may see after your treatment, but you may experience some slight swelling in the treatment area, regardless you should see the best result about a week after treatment with Volux™ XC.

KYBELLA™

KYBELLA™ is an exciting new procedure that has made it possible to non-invasively treat submental fat in certain patients without the need for surgery. KYBELLA™ (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin.” Accumulation of excess fat tissue in the submental area can cause the appearance of a double chin. This can make the chin poorly defined and adversely impact the overall facial aesthetics. Until now only liposuction cosmetic surgery was a viable solution to this condition. However, the introduction of KYBELLA non-surgical double chin reduction treatment has introduced a new alternative.

What is KYBELLA™? How Does KYBELLA™ Work?

KYBELLA™ is a refined version of a substance called deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced by your body. Deoxycholic acid’s primary role is assisting with fat absorption. It destroys fat cells wherever it is injected, causing them to be absorbed by the body. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. This makes KYBELLA™ an innovative and ideal new way for patients to gain some of the benefits of liposuction for a double chin without surgery. Prior to approval in May of 2015 by the Food and Drug Administration, KYBELLA™ was the subject of medical trials that included more than 1,000 individuals. The results showed that eight out of ten people who received KYBELLA™ had a loss of chin fat.

Who Is a Good Candidate for KYBELLA™ Treatment?

The KYBELLA™ Procedure

Before beginning treatment, Dr. Nagy will examine the area under and around your chin to see if KYBELLA™ is right for you. He will then prescribe a treatment strategy for you based on the amount of fat beneath your chin and your cosmetic goals.

During each KYBELLA™ treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin. The number of injections needed will be determined by the amount of fat under your chin that has accumulated. It will take roughly 15 to 20 minutes to complete the procedure.

How Many Treatments are Required? What Should I Expect?

The number of injections required depends on the needs and goals of each patient. You and your doctor will design a customized treatment plan to help you improve your chin profile. Many patients experience visible contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart on average. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA™, re-treatment is not expected.

What Happens During the Recovery After KYBELLA™ Procedure?

Please tell Dr. Nagy as soon as possible if you start having problems with your face, especially at the injection site.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a synthetic injectable filler that has been FDA-approved to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles, folds and creases around the nose and mouth by augmenting the skin’s natural collagen supply. Radiesse® is composed of microspheres in a water-based gel. WHAT ARE DYNAMIC WRINKLES?

Dynamic wrinkles and fold are areas on the face that experience repetitive motion. Your face can make millions of movements each day, from frowning, squinting, smiling, and so on. Due to these repetitive or “dynamic” motions, the skin begins to develop wrinkles which may become more difficult to treat over time due to the fact that the area is dynamic. WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID (HA)?

HOW ARE RHA® FILLERS MADE?

RHA® fillers are produced with hyaluronic acid (HA), using an advanced technology to obtain a soft and long lasting injectable gel to smooth facial wrinkles and folds. The HA of the gel is made from a non-animal source. The filler also contains a small amount of lidocaine (an anesthetic) to minimize discomfort during injection.

HOW DO RHA® FILLERS WORK?

RHA® is injected into the skin with an ultrafine needle to plump the skin to fill in and smooth away wrinkles and folds such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. Sculptra®

Sculptra® is an injectable product that corrects the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) by restoring lost volume in the skin. Lipoatrophy can result in sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow eyes. Injected into the deep dermis layer of the skin, Sculptra® provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. Note that Sculptra® does not treat lipoatrophy, but it does compensate for its effects.

Sculptra®’s main component is an alpha hydroxy acid called poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. It is safe, synthetic (artificially created), biocompatible (can be used harmlessly in the body), biodegradable (able to be broken down in the body) and long-lasting. PLLA has been used for more than 20 years in many surgical products, including dissolvable sutures and soft tissue implants.

Candidates for Sculptra®

Sculptra® is FDA-approved for the treatment of aging, wrinkled facial skin, and is considered safe and effective for most patients seeking to achieve a more youthful, natural-looking appearance with subtle, yet noticeable results. Sculptra® should not be used in patients who have active skin infections or inflammation (swelling) in the area to be treated, or who are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Sculptra® Treatment

At your Sculptra® treatment session, you will be asked to remove any makeup, and the area of skin to be treated will be swabbed clean. You and your doctor will discuss whether to use a local or topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. Then, your doctor will administer Sculptra® in a series of injections with a very fine needle. Afterwards, you will be given an ice pack to reduce swelling. It is important to massage the treated area to ensure that the material is evenly distributed beneath the skin.

Results of Sculptra®

Sculptra®’s effects are not immediate. Improvement in skin volume occurs gradually.

More than one treatment may be necessary to achieve the best results. Patients with more severe lipoatrophy generally need additional injections. In your follow-up appointment a few weeks after your first Sculptra® session, your doctor will determine whether you need a touch-up treatment.

The results of Sculptra® vary from patient to patient. In a clinical study, the effects were shown to last for up to two years after the first treatment session in most patients.

Recovery from Sculptra®

There is little to no downtime after a Sculptra® treatment. Most patients return to their normal activities immediately.

Risks Associated with Sculptra®

Some patients experience side effects from Sculptra® injections. These may include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. Side effects usually fade within a few days or even a few hours, although they can last longer. Massage and ice pack application to the treatment area reduce swelling. Strong sun and UV exposure should be avoided until swelling and redness have subsided.

Some patients develop small bumps under the skin in the treatment area. These may appear in the first six to twelve months after the first injection. They may be visibly red, or, more often, they may only be felt by pressing on the area.

Introducing SKINVIVE™ by Allergan Aesthetics. Dr. Michael Nagy of Plastic Surgery of the Face and Body is now offering the SKINVIVE™ injectable treatment by Allergan Aesthetics to his patients. This FDA-approved, clinically proven injectable treatment will increase hydration withing the cheeks, giving you a natural smooth glow without changing your appearance, and is great for all skin types and tones. SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM® is injected as tiny, intradermal microdroplets of hyaluronic acid within the dermis layer, so you won’t see any change in the shape or volume of your face—just healthier looking skin for a lasting glow.

Treatments are quick, taking about 15 minutes, so it’s possible to do on your lunch break, and results may last up to 6 months. That’s six months of hydration and glow. XEOMIN®

Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins, such as Xeomin®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions so frown lines are softened.

What Is Xeomin®?

XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medication injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. XEOMIN® contains botulinum toxin type A, a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

How Does Xeomin® Work?

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.

Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN®– acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, XEOMIN® can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.

Is Xeomin® Proven?

XEOMIN® was proven effective in two randomized, double-blind, multicenter, placebo-controlled clinical trials of 547 healthy, adult patients. The average age of patients in the study was 46 years. Patients received 20 units of XEOMIN® and were classified as responders if they had a 2-grade improvement on a 4-point scale as assessed by the physician and patient. Using these criteria, treatment success was higher with XEOMIN® than placebo on Day 30 in both studies (60% and 48% vs. 0% for placebo in both studies). Based on these trials, XEOMIN® received FDA approval for use in glabellar lines in 2011.

How Do I Know if Xeomin® Is Right for Me?

If you are an adult with moderate to severe glabellar lines, XEOMIN® may be right for you. Talk to your doctor to discuss the benefits and risks of treatment. Do not take XEOMIN® if you are allergic to botulinum toxin or any of the other ingredients in XEOMIN®. You should also not take XEOMIN® if you have had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product or have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

What Should I Tell My Doctor Before Treatment?

Before receiving treatment with XEOMIN®, you should tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, including whether you have a disease that affects your muscles and nerves, have allergies to any botulinum toxin product, or have experienced any side effect from any other botulinum toxin in the past. In addition, tell your doctor about your medical history and all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Especially tell your doctor if you have received any other botulinum toxin product in the last four months or in the past. Be sure your doctor knows exactly which product(s) you received and when you received them.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

During treatment, which usually takes about 10 minutes, your doctor will inject XEOMIN® into the muscles in your forehead that cause frown lines between your eyebrows. No anesthesia is required; however, your physician may use a topical anesthetic or cold pack to reduce any discomfort.

What Are the Most Common Side Effects of Xeomin®?

XEOMIN® may cause serious side effects, including allergic reactions. Symptoms of an allergic reaction to XEOMIN® may include: itching, rash, redness, swelling, wheezing, asthma symptoms, dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your doctor or seek medical help right away if you have wheezing, experience other asthma symptoms, or if you become dizzy or faint.

In clinical trials of XEOMIN® for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows, headache was the most common side effect.

XEOMIN® may cause loss of strength or general muscle weakness, blurred vision, or drooping eyelids within hours to weeks of taking XEOMIN®. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.

Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not subside. These are not all of the possible side effects of XEOMIN®. For more information, see accompanying Important Safety Information, Medication Guide, and Full Prescribing Information, or ask your doctor.

Are You Concerned About Looking Plastic or Overdone?

Looking plastic or overdone is a common concern among individuals considering an in-office treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. Talk to your licensed, trained, healthcare professional. There are steps you can take to make you feel more comfortable. First, have a detailed discussion with your provider. You want to talk through every concern you have until you feel comfortable. Your provider, who is experienced in facial anatomy, can determine the right options for you. For example, the most widely used procedure for moderate to severe frown lines is neurotoxin injections, a class of prescription medication that has been shown to be effective in many studies. Finally, ask for an FDA-approved product, such as XEOMIN®. Individual results may vary.
